As autumn winds down and signs of winter begin to approach, it is a good time to keep these following things in mind:

  • Make sure all of your bird feeders are cleaned out and refreshed, especially hummingbird feeders. The birds come to depend on their feeding stations especially over the fall and winter months when food isn’t as easy to find. And you will be rewarded with beautiful birds and music throughout the season.
  • This is a great time to lightly prune your roses bushes. Take off all dead canes and eliminate all canes that are smaller than the circumference of a pencil. Always try to keep your rose plant pruned and open in the middle so air can freely circulate.  A little light mulching and a top cover of bark is also good this time of year to keep the weeds to a minimum for spring.
  • Clean your gutters from all leaves and debris, trim any bushes or trees away from the house to help keep rodents away during the fall and winter months.
