The original Mai Tai was created by Victor J. ‘Trader Vic’ Bergeron in 1944, and brought to Hawaii in 1953 when he was asked by the Matson Steamship Lines to formalize drinks for the bars at their Royal Hawaiian, Moana and Surfrider Hotels.  And we are so glad he did! It's never been easier to create your very own tropical escape!

Ingredients

  • Juice of ½ lemon
  • 1 oz. Bacardi Rum
  • 1 oz. Bols Orange Curacao
  • ½ oz. Oregat (Almond Syrup)
  • 3 oz. orange juice
  • Ice
  • Short cocktail tumbler
  • 1 oz. Whalers Original Dark Rum (float)

Embellishments

  • Pineapple Slices
  • Maraschino Cherries
  • Plastic cocktail mermaids and monkeys
  • Colorful Straws
  • Umbrella Picks

Directions

Chill Glass, then add all liquid except for the float (dark rum), fill glass with small ice cubes about ¼ inch from rim. Gently pour in float. Embellish glass with Pineapple slice with Maraschino Cherry on a Umbrella pick. Add a mermaid and/or monkey and it's ready to serve.

Hint: If you can fresh squeeze your lemon and Orange Juice it will add a deeper flavor.

You can do it! Aloha
